CHAPTER ONE: FAREWELL
Sandstorm's P.O.V

Sandstorm was curled around her kits, Blazekit and Brightkit, awaiting Nightclaw's arrival. She 

spent time studying her kit's features. Both of them took after her in their pelt colours; Blazekit 

was a bright ginger tom with large paws, so Sandstorm knew he would grow up to be strong and 

sturdy. He had his father's ice blue eyes, which looked up at her, oblivious of the events to come. 

Her daughter, on the other paw, was staring at a stray cherry blossom, as if memorizing it's 

details. She looked almost exactly like Sandstorm, her blonde fur, her slender shape, which 

foretold that she would be agile. The only difference was her eyes; Sandstorm's were a stunning 

blue, whereas Brightkit's were a focused and calm green, like an early spring leaf. Pawsteps 

shifting earth outside the den brought Sandstorm back to reality, signaling that Nightclaw had 

come. Her chest pinched as she looked outside to welcome him. Instead, it was Whitefoot outside. 

He silently slipped inside the den, not even glancing at his nephew and niece. He spoke to her 

with that eerily calm quality she so disliked, staring at her with those unblinking amber eyes, 

which looked so much older than the white tom that bore them. He left moments before louder, 

heavier steps sounded outside the den. And this time Sandstorm knew it was Nightclaw. She was 

proved correct when the black tom with the icy blue eyes swooped into the den, studied Blazekit 

silently for a few seconds, then nodded as if to confirm his approval. Sandstorm felt herself 

shaking, and drew deep breaths to steady herself. She looked at Brightkit, who was now studying 

Nightclaw with that same intensity she always held. Sandstorm quickly picked her up by the scruff 

and plopping her just outisde the den. Nightclaw was waiting for her with Blazekit beside him. 

''He'l do.'' He meows simply. Simply. Like this isn't one of the most important moments of his life! 

I resist the urge to growl, to snap at him, to grab my poor son and run far, far away, to escape the

dangers and critisism of my Clanmates. But the rage melts inside me as I think of my father, his 

scorning gaze locked on me. I look back at Whitefoot for some reassurance, but all I get is a calm 

stare. His blankness unnerves me and I swivel back to Nightclaw. ''So you'l take him?'' I meow, 

my voice cracking. ''Yes, he will make a fine warrior of ShadowClan.'' Tears burn as the back of my

eyes, so I lower my gaze. ''His name is Blazekit.'' My mew is barely more than i whisper, but i 

know he hears me before he turns and pads away, a tiny orange bundle in his jaws.


CHAPTER TWO: SCORN
Brightkit's P.O.V

I'm not normal. I'm not like the other kits, who play mossball and annoy the elders and batter the 

apprentices. I see things they don't, and that adds to the thing. My mother doesn't like to talk 

about it, she thinks i don't know. I dream of it, though, of a bright orange tom kit, looking at me 

with pride. And the black tom with the icy eyes, taking him away forever. Where is he? The 

question burns inside me. I must know. It doesn't help that everyone around me looks at me like I

have greencough. Why? Because of the black tom with the icy eyes. My life has turned sour at four

moons because of him. My mother is sad because of him. The orange tom is gone because of him. 

PROLOGUE

The moon cast its silvery light down on the ThunderClan camp. The trees were still, no frogs

croaked, no mice scuffled and the lake had no ripples. The whole forest was holding it's breath. 

Suddenly, a bloodcurdling screech shot up, unsettling the tiny mammals under ground and 

startling a nest of swallows, sending them up into the air.

Appearance: solid grey she-cat with dreamy, bright blue eyes

Personality: sweet, caring, fierce in battle

Family: Father: Ashfur Mother: Sorreltail Brother: Molepaw Sisters: Honeyfern, Poppyfrost and Cinderheart 

Backstory: Moonkit was the daughter of Ashfur and Sorreltail, and sister to Molekit, Honeykit, Poppykit and Cinderkit. She was really close friends with Jaypaw, Hollypaw, and especially Lionpaw. At the battle with ShadowClan, Moonpaw was killed in a tragic scene with Firestar and Brambleclaw making sad speeches about how brave and noble she was, and naming her Moonspirit. The whole Clan sobbed at her death, with Lionpaw standing over her, declaring his undying love. She lived just long enough to give birth to Lionpaw's six kits, Thunderkit(Thunderclap/star), Shinekit(Shinespirit), Blazekit(Blazestorm), Wildkit(Wildflower), Rosekit(Rosewish) and Sweetkit(Sweetheart).

CHAPTER ONE: THE CHOICE

Moth Flight's P.O.V

A teasing glint flashed in Dappled Pelt's gaze. ''You sound like you're in love.''

Acorn Fur looked away shyly. ''We have been getting close,'' she admitted. ''We've even talked 

about sharing a nest.'' Cloud Spots purred. ''It looks like Moth Flight won't be the only medicine cat

with kits.'' Something inside Moth Flight lurched, and she was about to say something about that, 

but she stopped herself. Who am I to decide whether Acorn Fur takes a mate or not? She forced a 

smile. ''I can give you some tips.'' She meowed, her throat tightening as she remembered Micah's 

death. Acorn Fur must have seen it because sympathy flashed in her eyes, but before she could 

say anything, Pebble Heart meowed. ''There's Highstones, we'd better hurry if we want to beat the 

moon.'' The others nodded and raced toward the looming shape of Highstones. 

                                                             ...

Inside the Moonstone's cave, Moth Flight was reminded of the first time she had been here, when 

Micah had been waiting outside. Grief stabbed her insides, turning her expression sour. ''Moth 

Flight.'' Pebble Heart's meow drew her back to reality. She shook her head irritably and lay down 

on the cave floor beside Dappled Pelt, reaching her nose out and touching the cold stone of the 

Moonstone. There was a brilliant flash and Moth Flight opened her eyes to find herself with the 

others in the hunting grounds of the spirit-cats. She was once again swept away by the beauty of 

the land. Moth Flight looked around her to see the spirit-cats padding toward them. She glimpsed 

Micah's yellow pelt, but Half Moon had stepped forward, addressing each medicine cat in turn. 

''Cloud Spots, Pebble Heart, Acorn Fur, Dappled Pelt and Moth Flight.'' Half Moon's gaze lingered on

Moth Flight after she spoke, disappointment hidden behind her eyes. Moth Flight stared back, 

puzzled. What? She asked silently. What did I do?

                                                              
CHAPTER TWO: BLAST FROM THE PAST

Acorn Fur's P.O.V

Acorn Fur was happy. She was happy for the first time in what felt like forever. She felt really, 

truly happy. She hadn't felt this way since Jackdaw's Cry and Hawk Swoop had been killed in that 

awful battle. She shuddered at the memory. 

                                                               ...Flashback...

Acorn Fur felt as if her world had collapsed. She forced herself not to look at her parent's, bodies, 

laying in the clearing. It wasn't real. It couldn't be real. It was just a dream, in a moment she 

would wake up and be in her nest, with Jackdaw's Cry, Hawk Swoop and Lightning Tail. 

Oh, Lightning Tail, she glanced up at him. Bleeding and ragged, he looked just how she felt. 

Lightning Tail, dear, sweet brother, what are we going to do? They're dead. They're dead. They 

were really dead. Tall Shadow was saying something about respect for the slain, but Acorn Fur 

wasn't listening. They're dead. the thought kept spinning in her mind like a spider weaving it's 

web. Suddenly she felted completely and utterly trapped. She had to get out, she had to escape. 

But where? The only place to go was to... No, no, she couldn't go there, not after this. But Acorn 

Fur couldn't help but look up at Clear Sky, bowing his head. He had fought valiantly, and even 

after the battle, he looked as strong as ever. Guilt pounded at her head. How dare she think of 

joining his group? She looked around the clearing. Bodies were everywhere, and cats that weren't 

dead looked it. Acorn Fur squinted at the moor on the horizon. Her home. But it didn't feel like 

home anymore. Not without Jackdaw's Cry and Hawk Swoop. She had made up her mind. 

                                                       ...End of flashback...

Acorn Fur remembered so clearly the look of horror and betrayal etched on Lightning Tail's face 

when she told him she was going to the forest. And even worse were the moons to come, 

stranded in Clear Sky's camp, scorned and outcasted. It was only after they had found the Blazing 

Star that Acorn Fur felt like she belonged in the forest. And now she was one of Clear Sky's... No, 

Skystar's, most trusted cats, as well as the medicine cat. Life was good. No cat was sick, no cat 

had died, and best of all, she had him... She learned that she was expecting his kits a few sunrises

ago. And every time he came in to camp from a hunting patrol, she would stare into his handsome 

face until she had memorized every bit of it. Red Claw.
