INTRODUCTION

In the year 2159, a great solar flare, known as the Burning, hit Earth, knocking out 70% of the planet's population. Humanity suddenly found itself struggling for life in the aftershock of the flare. In the years to come, many would die of starvation, radioactive poisoning, or being devoured by the beasts that the flare contaminated. The surviving 3,000 people set to work immediately, building a 5,00 mile wall, 100 meters tall. They named it Wall Athena, after the goddess of warfare and practicality. Many, many years later, humanity had completely populated the inside of Wall Athena, and Wall Hera, which they had built a few years earlier. They had developed a system, that all children above the age of 12 would enter the army, joining either the Scout Regiment, Defense Army, or Military Police.

Every day, my morning begins with a phone call. It's always the same, no exceptions. Peter Simmons, North Carolina. Peter insists on calling me every 24 hours, to check I'm okay alive. It's become quite a nuisance, but I cope. It's hard to know who to trust these days, with the attack on Metropolis and all.

Personally, I believe that all this 'Superman' stuff is bullshit. Literally every corner I turn, there's always at least someone raving on about how 'blessed' we are that some overpowered super-being has shown the courtesy to defend the Earth from alien attacks, even though he kills way more innocent bystanders than he does actual enemies. Not to mention that him being on Earth is, by my standards, an alien invasion in itself. No living thing, super-being or not, has the right to swoop from the heavens and intrude on our my day-to-day life to save us from impending doom. It's just downright rude.
